Outdoor Adventures' Guide Schools

The goal of every guide school is to equip you with the skills and experience necessary to guide trips for Outdoor Adventures. All of the Outdoor Adventures programs are taught by our talented and enthusiastic experienced guides.

Entry into each guide school is based on an application and interview process. Upon completion of the guide school, all guides must TA a designated number of trips and become certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR before being considered a guide.

Beginning Whitewater Rafting Guide School

Outdoor Adventures is proud to offer what we consider to be one of the most comprehensive rafting guide schools available. It consists of 12 classroom hours and 8 on-river days spent camping and rafting on the South Fork American River. During this course, you will not only learn the fundamentals of white water rafting, you will also become certified in Swift Water Rescue. Upon course completion, you will be able to guide commercial rafting trips for Outdoor Adventures and other rafting companies. This is a great way to spend your spring break, learn a fun new skill and make lifelong friends in the process.

*An additional $135 will be charged for food and personal safety equipment.

Sea Kayaking Guide School

Classroom Sessions: October 2, 9 2019
Weekend Sessions: October 5-6 and October 12-13 2019

This course is designed to develop your sea kayaking skills and give you the ability to lead sea kayaking trips for Outdoor Adventures. The school consists of three classroom sessions and two weekends working on paddling, safety, navigation, rescue, leadership and teaching skills. The weekend sessions take place in the challenging coastal environments of Tomales Bay, San Francisco Bay and the outer coast. All kayaking equipment and group camping gear is provided. Previous experience recommended, but not necessary.


Wilderness Guide School

Outdoor Adventures runs a wide variety of wilderness based trips. From week-long backpacking trips in Yosemite to overnight camping trips on the coast, we try to offer something for everyone. If you’ve ever wanted to lead outdoor trips, Wilderness Guide School is a great way to get started. In this 2 weekend course, you’ll learn essential skills necessary to lead wilderness trips. Upon successful course completion, you will become an Outdoor Adventures guide and can start leading wilderness trips.
