Need Help Paying for a Trip?

Campus Recreation is excited to offer a fee waiver for students interested in participating in programming at any of our centers, made possible through a partnership with Amazon. Any current and active fee paying UC Davis student can apply for a fee waiver to enroll in classes at less than the usual cost. The application period for the winter quarter is currently open. Winter Basics

Come to the Outdoor Adventures lodge at the corner of Hutchison and LaRue to learn the basics of having fun in the snow. We will cover topics such as how to plan a trip, safety concerns, and appropriate clothing for your next snowy adventure. This class is free, but please enroll at the link above so we can plan appropriately. 

Sierra Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is a great way to experience the Sierra Nevada mountain range, near Lake Tahoe during the winter! It's a beginner friendly sport that allows you see the majesty of this mountain range while the snow lights up the landscape. Transportation and snowshoes provided. 

Intro to Cross Country Skiing

Experience solitude and freedom exploring the snowy backcountry by learning the basics of cross country skiing. These trips are designed for the beginning cross-country skier and focus on easy terrain. Experienced and supportive instructors will begin with flat terrain and move on to moderate slopes as your skills progress. OA provides transportation, ski equipment and Snow Park passes.

Mt. Lassen Cross Country Skiing

Learn the basics of backpacking on skis in the beautiful winter environment of Lassen National Park. This trip is open to beginners and experienced cross-country skiers hoping to learn or improve their skills on fairly easy terrain. On this three-day, two-night trip, OA provides the skis, boots, poles, group camping gear, as well as breakfasts and dinners. Lunches are the participants' responsibility. We will be camping in the snow both nights. Participants are responsible for a $10 park entrance fee.

Snow Cave and Igloo Building

Learn how to build shelters out of snow, including snow caves, igloos and camp kitchens. Basic techniques will be introduced in the classroom and applied in actual snow. After a short snowshoe hike, spend the day building shelters in this fun and practical class until you are ready to try out your creations and camp for the night. OA provides transportation, group camping gear, shovels, snowshoes, instruction, as well as breakfasts and dinners. Lunches are the responsibility of the participants.
